How does climate change smell?

For this project, I created a fragrance inspired by a melting glacier: cold, fresh and mineral, with the subtle presence of water and ice.

The scent was released into the Old Botanical Garden in Zurich during the summer, creating an unexpected olfactory experience in the warm environment. The familiar summer air was temporarily transformed into the atmosphere of a melting glacier.

By shifting the experience of the glacier from a distant landscape into the immediate surroundings, the installation makes an invisible and distant process physically perceptible.

The air becomes the medium. The glacier becomes a scent.
